DMI Program Created to Increase Diversity in Plaintiff Bar
We are proud of the passion and dedication of our attorneys in everything that they do. This summer was the inaugural year of the Diverse Mentoring Initiative (DMI), a statewide program founded by attorney Amanda Jonas Lorentson that seeks to create greater diversity in the legal field by placing first year law students from diverse backgrounds at Plaintiff’s side firms. DMI is endorsed by and partners with the leading trial organizations across Pennsylvania including, the Pennsylvania Association for Justice (PAJ), the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association (PTLA), the Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association (WPTLA), and the Northeastern PA Trial Lawyers Association (NEPATLA). DMI creates a much-needed infrastructure for firms of all sizes to take on a summer clerk, or “Mentee,” enabling even solo practitioners to provide students with the same high quality summer programming typically only offered by defense side firms. Mentees receive 10 weeks of paid employment, mentorship, and weekly DMI sponsored educational programing and networking opportunities. In recognition of this program, Amanda was honored as the 2023 Amber Racine Award winner by PAJ and serves as PAJ’s Chair of DEI, and the Chair of Diversity for PTLA. DMI is currently seeking firm partners – if your firm is interested in being a part of this groundbreaking program, or if you know of a 1L who should apply, please contact Amanda J. Lorentson for more information.
