Partner & Lead Trial Attorney

Partner & Lead Trial Attorney

John has spent more than a decade trying cases to verdict. At McEldrew Purtell, he utilizes that vast experience to represent families and individuals who are dealing with the fallout from catastrophic injuries and wrongful deaths arising from civil rights violations, trucking accidents, medical malpractice, railroad injuries, and other serious personal injury matters. John reputation as a top-level trial attorney has led to him being sought out by clients across the country, including in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, California, Texas, Illinois, Louisiana, Georgia, and Florida.

Prior to joining the firm, John served as Assistant General Counsel for the School District of Philadelphia and Deputy City Solicitor at the Philadelphia Law Department. In those roles, John handled some of the City’s most high-stakes litigation with a focus on civil rights violations, ADA, and Title VI and IX claims. John previously worked for two federal judges – the Honorable Mitchell S. Goldberg and the Honorable R. Barclay Surrick – in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, as well as the Honorable George A. Pagano in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas. In addition to his active practice, John has served as adjunct faculty at his alma mater, Temple University’s Beasley School of Law, teaching a class entitled “Strategic Considerations in Civil Rights Litigation.”

John has been honored by his peers and the public alike. He has been named multiple times as a Rising Star in civil rights litigation by Super Lawyers. Additionally, in 2017 he was named to the “Who’s Next: Law” list, a recognition given annually by Billy Penn and presented by The Knight Foundation. In 2016, he was recognized for his community service efforts and was awarded the F. Sean Peretta Service Award by the Philadelphia Bar Association.

A former varsity baseball player at Temple, John lives in the Art Museum area of Philadelphia. In his free time, John enjoys surfing, golfing, and competing in triathlons.
